![]() Instead, TubeCast asks Youtube-dl to download the video info to JSON, which the RSS generator then loads in and reads to populate it's entry info. This data could be passed straight through the the RSS feed generator. There are areas where the program could probably be a lot more efficient or clean, but at the cost of this modularity.įor example, the Youtube-dl api does allow one to access the video description easily in Python. TubeCast has been built in a very modular way, so that the three main sections (Youtube, feed generation, file hosting) are distinctly separate. Update: This program is clearly in violation of the YouTube terms of service, as I assume youtube-dl must be also. I would recommend you look to see if the creator you're TubeCasting has a Patreon, or similar, to support them. While perhaps naive, the intent is to be able to consume their content in a more convienient way for those who either get motion-sickness on public transport, or can't afford the data costs of mobile YouTube. This program no way intends to stop content creators receiving payment via ads (or whatever). *"Limited to podcasting" is a misnomer, because podcasts are great! Important Note Then you can consume the media you want when you can! So long as your computer and phone are on the same network, there will be no data usage. You can use any podcast app on your phone (with all its bells-and-whistles) to copy the audio or videos from your computer. TubeCast allows you to download YouTube videos onto your local computer, and then host them as a podcast RSS feed. Or, you can't afford the data costs, since the YouTube app won't cache videos. The problem: you get motion-sickness, so you're limited to podcasting*. You would like to, but the only time you really have is on the way to work on a bus or train. Sometimes you don't have time to sit down and watch a long YouTube video of a movie review or talk. ![]() like TubeCast.Convert a YouTube channel into a local RSS source for a podcast app to pickup. However all that said this is great app hence why I will continue to use it unless there is something better that offers all of above and streaming options to DLNA/Apple TV and etc. If anyone knows answer to any of the above in case I'm missing something it would be much appreciated however with most other apps out of the box these are standard except for being universal. Only shows limited amount of feeds on main screen, it be ideal to have option for adding more as you scroll down True universal app would be great that replicates everything including settings over to the Windows/Windows Phone side Management of various areas is necessary which is currently missing, including playlists It does not show various areas that do on other devices/apps, for example it only shows Liked Videos only from the same device and TubeCast app! they said I need to make my Likes public which I don't in other apps and prefer to keep them private so this is still ongoing Only few major issues which has been annoying for some time and have reported these without any solution so far though they have replied number of times: Been using the TubeCast Pro paid version on the Windows Phone for some time now and is great, just installed and paid for Windows version also however is not showing as universal! is a seperate app altogether and had to pay again to unlock.
